What is your family history with sea?
I was born into a family shaped by the sea. My father was a dedicated sailor, my brother is a professional seafarer, and my great-grandfather was a well-known fisherman. Growing up with their stories, skills, and love for the water, it was only natural for me to follow the same path. The sea has always been part of who I am, and today I carry that family tradition with pride on every journey I make.
When did your story with the sea begin?
My story on the sea began when I was just a child, growing up on the island of Šolta surrounded by the water and boats. That early connection shaped everything that came after. My first embarkation was in 2008, and from there I continued my journey through maritime studies and professional experience, leading me to where I am today.
What are some of your standout memories as a captain?
One of my favorite memories as a captain is the moment I took command of the then brand-new vessel Ardura (today known as Green Ray) in 2019. Stepping on board a ship that was still shining with its first touches of craftsmanship was something truly special. I remember the sense of responsibility, excitement, and pride all mixing together as we prepared her for her very first charter. That first feeling of departure the engine come to life, watching the coastline and seeing the guests experience the vessel for the first time, remains one of the most meaningful and unforgettable moments of my career.
Have you sailed other destinations besides Croatia and the Adriatic?
Yes, I have. I’ve sailed along the French Atlantic coast, including the Bay of Biscay, where I gained valuable experience in open-sea conditions. I also spent time sailing in different parts of the Mediterranean. These trips helped me build practical knowledge and confidence in handling various routes and weather conditions.
What is your favourite sailing route in Croatia?
My favourite route in Croatia is the Central Adriatic. I enjoy this area because of its beautiful islands, clear waters, and varied landscapes. It offers a mix of calm sailing and interesting ports to explore, making each journey enjoyable and memorable. The combination of natural beauty and great sailing conditions makes it a route I always look forward to.
What attracted you to the position of captain?
I have always wanted to command a ship and sail the seas. From a very young age, I was fascinated by boats and life on the water, and I knew early on that working at sea would be my path. Becoming a captain was the natural next step in pursuing that dream. The position allows me to take full responsibility for a vessel, lead a crew, and share unforgettable experiences with those on board. It’s not just a job for me it’s the realization of a lifelong passion and the opportunity to carry on my family’s maritime tradition.
How would you describe your leadership style as a captain?
I prefer a relaxed leadership style, where everyone on board feels like part of one family. I believe in creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere while maintaining professionalism and safety. For me, teamwork and mutual respect are essential, and I want every crew member to feel valued and confident in their role.
What is one thing you think people don’t know about Croatia but should?
I think many people don’t realize that Croatia is one of the safest countries in the world. Visitors can enjoy their holiday in peace, without worrying about their safety. It’s a place where you can relax, explore, and truly enjoy the beauty of the country with confidence.
