What to Pack for a Low-Season Sailing Charter in Croatia?

  • Charter advice

You are booked to come sailing in Croatia during the low season, and now you are wondering what to pack and wear? Weather in the low season can be lovely, yet it is also very temperamental. So, unlike in July and August when you are more likely to live in your bathers, a variety of clothes are needed to be comfortable in all temperatures.

Essentials

Documents

Check our blog Packing Light for tips on essentials to pack. It is also important to mention here to remember all your documents – passports and licenses. If you have a jet ski license, remember to bring it, as this is a requirement in Croatia. Medications – remember to pack all required medications for your trip. Luggage – a soft duffel bag is preferable, as it is easier to store on boats.

Toiletries

Toiletries

All our yachts provide basic toiletries like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and sunscreen. The yachts also have bath towels and beach towels, so no need to pack these. Pack any special lotions and creams you use, makeup, facewash (plus cotton pads or face wipes), etc. Toothbrush and toothpaste. All yachts have hairdryers but pack straighteners or hair curlers if you wish. If you want to travel light, you can buy all toiletries you need upon arrival in Croatia – there are pharmacies and shops at every major destination.

Devices and Chargers

Devices

Phones, tablets, cameras, laptops… though hopefully, you will be able to unplug for a while. Pack what you need and remember to pack the chargers too. Most yachts will have adapters on board, but it is always smart to bring a few Universal adapters with you. A waterproof cover for your phone is also a good idea.

Games, Entertainment, Toys

Game

All our yachts have some cards or board games aboard. If you have children, maybe pack one or two of their favorite soft toys or games, coloring and reading books. No need to buy inflatable toys, as all our yachts have a fun selection of inflatables. When you book, we will give you the full inventory of what your yacht has aboard.

Clothes – What to Pack?

Clothes

Knowing what to pack for a holiday is always hard and let’s face it, we all usually overpack, but here are a few things to keep in mind, specifically if you are coming during low season.

  • 3 – 4 t-shirts to wear during the day,
  • 2 – 3 shirts/blouses to wear for the evening,
  • 2 x pairs of long trousers / 1 pair of linen trousers,
  • 2 – 3 pairs of shorts,
  • 2 maxi dresses (that can be dressed up or down) or skirts,
  • 1 x light waterproof/windproof jacket,
  • 1 x nice jacket or blazer for the evening,
  • 1 – 2 x hoodie/jumper if it gets cold,
  • Pajamas,
  • Activewear (leggings, sports bra, tank),
  • 1 x pair of trainers (lightweight), 1 x sandals, 1 x dress shoes,
  • 1 x scarf – this can double as a shawl in the evening,
  • Socks and underwear,
  • 3 – 4 swimsuits, so you can rotate through the days,
  • Sarong or cotton/linen coverup,
  • 2 pairs of sunglasses (day and dress), 1 watch, 1 sunhat,
  • 1 x small backpack if you go on a day excursion, 1 – 2 handbags.

Keep it Practical

Outfit

When packing, keep practicality in mind – try to pack items that can go together, i.e., to mix and match outfits. And keep it light – cotton t-shirts and linen clothing are always the best options. Remember that the dress code in Dalmatia and aboard is typically casual. Even when dining out in the evenings, smart-casual is usually the style. Ladies, you can pack high heels, but honestly, very few people wear them; with cobblestoned streets and beach vibes, they aren’t necessary. A nice pair of sandals or flats will suffice. Check that you have something for all occasions – being active, swimming, windy/cold weather, hot weather, day casual, evening dining. And remember what they say – that what you wear is usually 50% less than what you want to pack. So, before closing your suitcase, lay all your clothes out on the bed and double-check whether everything is necessary.
