Croatia has been making headlines for some time now and for good reason. In 2015 the New York Times 36-hour series featured Split and caused a stir, awakening the US market to this ‘unknown’ destination. Conde Nast Traveller has numerous features on Croatia and recently, Virtuoso’s Wanderlist ranked Croatia as one of the top 20 most desirable destinations for 2021.
We could talk for days about the numerous reasons you should sail in Croatia but for today, let’s start with just 6 reasons to charter a yacht and sail Croatia in 2021.
1. SAFETY AND SAILING
Let’s start with safety. If there is one thing (of many) that 2020 has taught us, it’s the importance of safety. While there are still many uncertainties, general safety in Croatia is not one of them. Croatia has consistently been ranked as one of the safest countries in the world. One of the greatest advantages of chartering a yacht is the safety that comes with it; with no crowds or moving around to deal with, you can sit back and relax as your captain and crew take care of your every need. Spend days anchored in secluded bays or if you want to explore, let us take care of the details. In terms of safety at sea, the Adriatic is known for its calm and protected seas which makes it the perfect choice for those with less experience at sea.
All of our yachts and crew are known personally by us, so our suggestions are based on knowing the right fit for you; this gives our clients security, to know that our yachts are of the highest standard. Another element for peace of mind is knowing that when you book with us, we take care of all formalities in regards to your charter and are here for you 24/7 – including support in case of unforeseen circumstances. If peace of mind, relaxation and safety are important to you, a yacht charter with Otium Yachts might be your answer.
2. WEATHER AND CLIMATE
Croatia is one of the sunniest regions in the with more than 2,500 hours of sunshine per year. The climate in Croatia is Mediterranean, meaning winters are mild and summers are gloriously hot. The sailing season is typically from May until October, with peak season being July and August. While the weather in early Spring is not as stable or guaranteed, many enjoy sailing during this time to avoid peak crowds – with temperatures warming to around 20°C (68°C), it is warm enough to enjoy and swim. July and August are peak season with guaranteed hot weather and warm seas, while September and October have become more popular with fewer crowds and weather that remains warm and pleasant. Depending on the type of holiday you want, let us guide and help you plan your yacht charter in Croatia.
3. NATURE
Croatia boasts more than 1,000 islands and 5,800 km of indented coast (including the islands and reefs); so, it’s no wonder that it has become one of the top charter destinations in the world. Croatia also has eight national parks and eleven nature parks, which include archipelagos and areas of natural beauty accessible by boat – Brijuni, Kornati, Mljet, Telaščića, Lastovo and Krka Waterfalls... Of the 1000+ islands in Croatia, only 69 are inhabited, this should paint a picture of the untouched and idyllic nature you can expect to find in Croatia. Whether sailing or exploring, the nature in Croatia is bound to take your breath away and breathe new life into your soul.
4. RELAXATION
Now, we may be biased but there is no doubt in our minds that a sailing holiday is one of the best holidays, maybe even THE best. Once you step aboard there is nothing more to think about. You have a professional crew dedicated to meeting and exceeding your every desire, you will visit new destinations but don’t need to think about packing and moving, all comfort, convenience and even entertainment are on-board, all you need to do is relax and enjoy. Can you see yourself lying in the sun reading a book or sipping a cocktail as the coastline glides by, exploring quaint coastal towns, swimming in crystal-clear waters, watching painted skies with friends and family? A sailing holiday has the power to replenish the mind, body and soul and after 2020, we believe everybody deserves this!
5. HISTORY AND CULTURE
Croatia has a rich history and culture; the old towns, monuments, people and tradition are the ambassadors of this unique history. Croatia has 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites and 15 sites and monuments on the ‘Tentative’ List. Many of these sites can be visited during a sailing holiday in Croatia, including the famed old town of Dubrovnik, Stari Grad on the island of Hvar – one of Europe’s oldest towns, Diocletian’s Palace in Split or try wine from the protected Primošten vineyards, to name a few. Just wandering the alleyways, you become part of more than 1,000 years of history. There is so much more to Croatia than the sun and the sea (though obviously, we love these things too). 6. FOOD AND WINE
“This is world-class food, world-class wine, world-class cheese. The next big thing is Croatia! If you haven’t been here yet, you’re an idiot! I’m an idiot!” Not our words but the words of the late food guru Anthony Bourdain when he first visited Croatia in 2012. When many think of food and wine – countries like France, Spain and Italy first come to mind but Croatia is slowly starting to gain recognition. With more than 100 indigenous grape varieties, award-winning cheese and truffles, Michelin-star restaurants, incredible seafood and fresh produce, Croatia is a gastronomer’s dream. Not to mention enjoying gourmet cuisine prepared daily by your chef, as well as wine and drinks tailored specifically for you by your experienced crew. Could it possibly get any better?
